Our Scout Hall & Grounds We’re very fortunate to have our own Scout Hall and grounds – it’s a roof over our head and a wilderness to explore; it’s somwhere we can meet, play, and keep things safe; and it’s a part of our wider community. A Strong Foundation Our hall was built over 65 years ago in 1957, after a lot of fundraising work including the famous (or maybe infamous!) Variety Shows put on by our Rover Scouts. The hall has been an excellent home to generations of our Scout group ever since. Those generations have continued the original spirit to preserve the hall for future generations – working hard and volunteering their own time for maintenance work, fundraising events and letting the hall to external groups. Cementing our Future Given the age of the building, we now need to undertake a major refurbishment project – to renew some aging parts like the roof, extend & upgrade the building to support scouting in the 21st century, and improve accessibility to a wider range of community users. In 2020 / 2021 we completed planning & building approval for the full project. We completed Phase 1 of our works in Spring 2022: a new toilet, shower & washing extension accessibility improvements to our front entrance upgrades to our drainage, heating, electricity supply, and internet access major refresh of our internal decoration, lighting and grounds (mostly done by our volunteers) A big thank you to the many donors who contributed to this… (read our Donor Roll here) …and also to all our volunteers who worked so hard in fundraising, organising and work parties! Phase 2 will involve renewing our roof and adding an equipment shed for our adventure equipment. We already have funding for the equipment shed, but we expect the cost to replace both the pitched and flat roofs of the hall to be substantial. Any help you can give to support this next phase will be gratefully received – you can donate to our Raise the Roof campaign here or using the link in our site menu. Phase 3 will add a storage extension to the rear of our hall, giving our community users a place to store equipment.
