NUMBER SIXTY ONE     26th October 1946

Dear Lads,

We know there was no Bulletin last month, but that was due to the fact that there were very few letters and consequently very little news, it has also been decided that this edition will be the Penultimate Bulletin (and for the benefit of you blokes wot can’t add, that means the last but one – this edition will give you all the latest news, and then next month there is an idea that we should hold back again until December, then we can round off with a Christmas Number.

Now to get down to answering the old faithfuls who wrote :

BRUCE BAILLIE writes “Bring me another double Aconite, James, Group 46 will not be out until Christmas!” -he was on his way up to Port Dickson on the 23rd of last month, so we hope that you have settled down now Bruce, and got, time to do a “recce or two of the local fish shops, he also writes ” I once knew a friendly shark by the name of Thomson, if that Pig-tailed Roller Coaster by virtue of being in the Navy gets out more than two years before I do I’ll clang his bell-bottoms for him ! !”

IAN THOMSON on the other hand writes to say that all being well he will return to Civvy Street on November the 29th. he adds that he hopes The Baillie is still striving to keep his sanity! News Flash – Ian has grown a beard!, but promises that he will not darken the cottage door  looking like Barnacle Bill

WILL TAYLOR still in Ross-shire, and is now Cinema Operator, expected on leave soon, we will be looking out for you, only remember that the Saturday meetings are at the Hut, and not at the Cottage.

CAMPBELL MAC. reports from Nether India that there has been a Slight SkIrmish, and that the Political Agent, captured some months ago by tribesmen, has committed suicide, at least causing a little scandal in the neighbourhood.

BROTHER ALASTAIR writes that he has visited Rhodes, and tells us that there are many interesting, historical and archaeological places around that part. He mentions the walled city as one place, are you sure that wasn’t done on purpose Ali, when they knew you were coming? He is now travelling down the coast of Cyprus.

BILL MAHAFFY from Nigeria brings tales of Jungle warfare in the mark of Leopard Men who have done some 150 murders in the district, but the P.W.D., have taken over and done as many hangings (what a gruesome Bulletin), he says that the blokes have all lost their skill, in olden days when we read of their deeds they put on claws, and fangs before going out for the night, now they use an old piece of roughly sharpened Corrugated Iron, the trouble being of course that they don’t serve on apprenticeship now!!

JOEY STEWART At the moment. he seems to be having trouble in getting the Bulletin, but we have noted your correct address Joey, and you shouldn’t have any more trouble. Since he went on his new job of briefing he has not had much flying, but managed to get one trip to Treviso, had hoped to see Vienna and Rome but now thinks he will not make it after all. Visited Venice, and took some snaps which will be on view at Love’s Abode when he gets back. (Wasn’t that the place that suffered a few months ago from the floods – weak joke by Editorial Staff)

IAN MOFFATT Arrived back in India, has been playing Football for first round of the All-India League –  against School of Artillery, all Officers or Cadets – beat them 8-3 (excuse me sir, Wham!)

Home News  Rehearsal now in full swing for Victory Show – get the propaganda going NOW for your ticket sales in February. So far things have not gone too badly, but we have yet to teach the “chorus” their song and Dance.

Still on the entertainment line we are holding a “ROVER DANCE” in Macdonald’s Ballroom, Fettes Row, on Thursday, 9th JAN.47. Tickets (price 3/- each) may be had in bulk or singly from Murray Cullen. So now all you blokes who think that you will be out then, do the necessary tonight and write to her and fix the date!!

For those of you who will be calling in in the near future we remind you that we still open on a Friday for those who care to turn up. Cottage open as usual, then, every Saturday at 7,30 in the Hut for Friers Golden Follies.

We have to thank Mrs Band for a very kind donation towards postages of the Bulletin.

Thots all for now – see you in our last number which will go to press in time for Christmas.

Tattie Peelings

Further News Flash – IAN THOMSON has just arrived at the Hut – minus beard!
